How is this different from an "LCD Separator" (like the TBK-988)?

They do two different jobs. This Heating Pad (TBK-568) is a soft silicone mat used to warm the entire device to make it safe to open the phone (separate the screen from the frame). An LCD Separator (TBK-988) is a hard metal plate with a vacuum used after the screen is out, to hold it flat so you can separate the broken glass from the LCD.
